Okay, I didn't see any thread like this so I thought to start one, hopefully that's okay.
This is a writing site and I'm betting we all read, so what's your favorite book and why? What are you reading right now that you can't put down?
Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos is my all time favorite book. Its about two women who have totally different lives and pasts, who end up living together and touching each other's lives. It focuses first on them and then on the lives outside their own that they touch, growing a bit, and showing that its okay to be broken, because by that we are whole and human and its how we love and make the mosaic that is the world we live in. This book made me laugh, cry, ponder and showed me so many things about life. And its Kallos' first novel...

At the moment, I've got two series that I'm obsessed with. Terry Pratchett's Discworld is an awesome fantasy and incredibly funny, and the characters are all great no matter which of the 40 or so books you read. My favorite is probably Death. Especially when he's got the Death of Rats with him. The other is the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. It's also fantasy, but the type with dragons in the army. It's the British war with Napoleon, only...there's dragons now, and it's focused on a man who has to leave his naval career because he harnessed a dragon that he has to fly into battle with. Incredibly amazing, well-written, and I love the characters.

My favourite book of all time is The Lucifer Code by Michael Cordy. I can't really explain things well so i'll just copy paste the summary off of Amazon
Lucifer The Light Age has dawned. Light divides the universe into two: day and night. Good and evil. Life and death. Now its power, harnessed by a new generation of optical computers, attempts to answer mankind’s last great question: What happens to us when we die? But this is perilous knowledge, as Dr. Miles Fleming, a brilliant young neurologist discovers. To find the truth he must challenge the certainties of both science and religion, and embark on a journey that jeopardizes his most basic assumptions and beliefs. On reaching the final terrifying revelation he realizes that there are perhaps some things mankind should never know. For shining a light on the truth can sometimes reveal the darkest recesses of hell itself.
So yeah. in my opinion it's kind of like The Da Vinci Code in the sense that it's got a whole adventure that spans different locations, conspiracies and themes that leave you pondering. Unfortunately, The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons combined don't come close to being half as good as The Lucifer Book.

I'm currently loving 'The Wicked Cycle' (including Wicked, Son of a Witch, and A Lion among Men, which I haven't yet read). But that partly has to do with my obsession with the musical and its songs xD. Though I did read the book before seeing the musical.

Oooh Kuro, there are signs up for Wicked all over the city, I wish I had the money to go see a performance of it.
I just finished yesterday Fortune's Fool, by Mercedes Lackey. I love ML <33 I've read all of her books I can get my hands on and I doubt I've read them all. Its a really good mix of several fairytales, the seventh daughter of the sea king, only Katya is nothing like Ariel for the most part, add in lots of Russian folk lore, and its great. Hilarious, well written, the characters seem to come alive off the page. For anyone who likes fairytales I recommend it and the first book of that series as well, The Fairy Godmother.

Well, my tastes are kind of scattered all over the place as far a books go, but there is one series that kind of hits on two major aspects of my tastes. The Deepgate Codex deals with extremely dark themes adding a good portion of steam punk and fantasy aspects. I've only read one of the books so far, but it's amazing. <3
The main character is a young angel around the age of 16 called Dil. (There is another word for angels, but I completely forgot it.) Angels for centuries have guarded the Church of Ulcis of the city of Deepgate, a city that is supported only by chains. The bloodline of the angels is rather...diluted, though. Dil is rather weak and soft-spoken despite a want for strength, almost the polar opposite of his famous and venerated late father. In his search for strength, he meets Rachel, an assassin for the Spine who is also lacking in much needed strength. Together, they discover deep and dark secrets of Deepgate not only on a secular level, but on a religious level as well.
The first book is called "Scar Night" and the series is by Alan Campbell. He's also written a prequel called "Lye Street" and put out a sequel called "Iron Angel" as well. I recommend this series wholeheartedly. I love it. x3

Well, I'm kind of flipping between two books right now. One is "Where I'm Calling From" by Raymond Carver. It's a collection of short stories that will absolutely BLOW your mind. That guy is my idol. His stuff makes my brain turn into salad croutons. (But enough of the overt sexual over-tones. My girlfriend wouldn't appreciate it.) I'm also reading the Bartimeus trilogy, but someone who's name I can't remember. Either way, they're really great stories, all of them. The main character is utterly hilarious, and not in the ridiculous-over-the-top-I'm-trying-too-hard-kind of way. The dialogue is completely fantastic.
The "secret Life of Bees" and "Opa Nobody" are on my list too.
